Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously lived in cities in the world, and home to thousands of temples. The most most important and significant one is the Kashi Vishvanath Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiv, this temple is the site of one of the twelve jyotirlings, and, according to Hinduism, one of the seven sacred sites of India. The Durga Temple, constructed in honour of Goddess Durga, is another famous temple in Varanasi. It is built in the Nagara architectural style, and is painted with red ochre, a colour associated with Durga. The temple is popular for its celebrations of Nag Panchami.
